Shipley Living Provides Speed Jokes for Popular Chicago Radio Show

Popular Chicago radio host publicly thanks Shipley for providing some laughs.

Residents love a good laugh.

When the call went out, it went unheeded until late last week, when residents of Shipley Living senior living community in Wilmington, Delaware, responded. John Williams, a popular radio host at WGN in Chicago, has a daily feature called Speed Jokes that draws faithful contributors and listeners from across the country. It’s widely recognized as an amusing way to start one’s day.

At the beginning of 2022, Williams challenged listeners to send jokes from all fifty states in the first 50 days of the year. As the count was approaching 50 days, the only state not having contributed was Delaware.

The residents of Shipley senior living were publicly thanked on the radio last week, as jokes submitted on their behalf were received, appreciated, and slated to share with the station’s listeners over the coming week. The dramatic eye-roll-worthy jokes included “What does Delaware?” Answer: “A new jersey.”

“The saying is true, that ‘life is better when you’re laughing.’ This was a fun project, and our residents love a good laugh,” said Kimberly Stout. The Director of Life Enrichment at Shipley earned the coveted WGN Speed Jokes coffee mug on behalf of Shipley.
