He’s got a diversified set of skills, all of which fit his new role perfectly. Micah Terry of Newark has an education in behavioral science and healthcare administration, retail sales experience, and operations and marketing proficiency. Combined, they are the ideal background for his position as Regional Marketing and Sales Specialist for Life Care Services (LCS). In this capacity, Micah oversees and manages the marketing and sales teams of Shipley Living and Foulk Living of Wilmington and Millcroft Living of Newark. Last year, LCS became the management company for the three Delaware-based senior living communities.
After studying behavioral science at Wilmington University, Micah worked in mental health until his budget was eliminated. He began working in big box retail furniture, starting in sales and progressing to operations management. “It helped me develop the ability to understand multiple needs,” he said. “In operations management, I learned to understand the true ins and outs of the business’s working parts. The role opened my eyes to marketing operations and analytics, understanding what the numbers mean.”
When Micah found that his work-related travel was taking too much time away from his family, he decided to “part ways” with the organization. A friend recommended he look into sales in senior living, and he found the industry for which he became passionate. “I became a director right away and ran with it,” he said, although he added that his retail sales mentality got in the way of his immediate success. “A mentor suggested I listen first to what prospective residents had to say. This took me back to my roots. In behavioral science, I had already been proficient in listening and responding, and I learned that’s an integral part of the discovery process in senior living. Everyone has a story, and once we learn it, we can resonate with each.”
When Micah heard that LCS had taken over the management of three Delaware senior living communities, he was intrigued. A colleague of his who had become part of the LCS management team encouraged him to pursue their open position as Regional Sales and Marketing Specialist. “She was so enthusiastic about LCS; it was contagious. It’s an amazing company, and she told me about their mentality, style, management, and team atmosphere,” he said. Micah interviewed for the position and started in his new role in March.
Micah works with marketing leadership in the three communities, with a focus on increasing census at each. “They’re a great group of professionals. I could not be any luckier having them as my team,” he said. With guidance and support from LCS, he added, the communities are ready for their bright and exciting futures.
“The communities have long-standing positive reputations. We are proud that we have the opportunity and resources to preserve and enrich the essence of their high level of service,” said Micah. In addition, he said, the communities are receiving refreshed living spaces, enhanced programming, and expanded clinical support.
Micah and his team are excited to welcome the great future of the communities.
