CauseVox.com observes, “since there have been good causes to support, there has been fundraising. Communities have rallied to meet needs around the globe and throughout history.”

Charitable giving has been part of human culture for thousands of years. Dating back to 2500 BCE, ancient civilizations launched a tax to help the poor. The word philanthropy, meaning ‘love of mankind,’ dates back to ancient Greece, where it was considered to be a fundamental component of democracy. Ancient Chinese considered benevolence to be a virtue. Religious texts, including Hindu scriptures, the Jewish Torah, the Islamic Koran, and the Christian Bible, all extol the importance of charity.

Charitable giving is an integral part of American culture. Over the last several decades, it’s reported that charitable donations have increased every year, outpacing the rate of inflation. In 2021, more than $485 billion was donated to charity, despite the hardship imposed by the pandemic.

Rarely has a philanthropic cause had more magnitude than that of the treatment, cure, and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. An estimated 55 million people worldwide live with dementia; more than six million live in the U.S.

Virtually everyone is impacted in some way by Alzheimer’s disease, whether a friend or loved one is suffering personally or providing caregiving. As witnesses to the devastation of the disease, people are driven en masse to help the fight against Alzheimer’s.

The 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. It is sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association, the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.

At the heart of supporting Alzheimer’s fundraising initiatives are those who care, every day, for individuals with dementia. The dedicated staff at the senior living communities of Foulk Living and Shipley Living in Wilmington, Delaware, and Millcroft Living in Newark, Delaware, have launched impressive fundraising initiatives. Events have included bake sales, a sip and paint event, a barbecue, and more. The communities’ fundraising efforts will culminate with the Walk to End Alzheimer’s-Wilmington at Tuman Garrett Riverfront Park on October 29th. To date, more than 603 participants on 111 teams have set a fundraising goal of $270,000.

Teams have been formed for Foulk Living, Shipley Living, and Millcroft Living, and the communities will all walk together, raising funds to someday prevent the horrible disease.
