Shipley Living Celebrates All Year
2023 marked the 60th anniversary of the observance of Older Americans Month. Started in 1963, the official designation, which was originally Senior Citizen Month, was launched by JFK. This year, the annual Older Americans Month’s theme has been Aging Unbound. Delaware Public Media explained that Aging Unbound refers to the opportunity to look at the meaning of aging and also at ways to support activities promoting healthy and vibrant aging.
While we appreciate the special acknowledgment of the official Older Americans Month, at the end of May, nothing will change at Shipley Living because here, we believe that every month is Older Americans Month. Throughout the course of every month of the year, we celebrate, honor, engage, and deeply care for the residents of our senior living community.
Checking the Boxes for Aging Well
According to the National Institute of Health, the important components of aging well are taking care of your physical, cognitive, and mental health. Seniors can enhance their physical health by being active and eating healthy food. Taking care of mental health means interacting with others and pursuing enjoyable activities. Achieving physical and mental health may, in turn, reduce the risk of dementia.
Shipley Living checks all the boxes for providing opportunities for aging well. Throughout the entire year, we offer exercise and fitness programs to promote health and well-being; social groups and activities to engage with others; lifelong learning opportunities to inspire, outings to destinations including shops, restaurants, cultural and entertainment attractions, and restaurant-style dining with fresh and healthy offerings. So while we appreciate the ‘official designation’ of Older Americans Month, we are ahead of the game by celebrating and honoring older Americans all the time.
